Military Odyssey update - August 4th 2010
Essential Support Vehicle Passes
I have had various enquires about these. We will need them to get into the Showground's and then use it as a parking ticket. 200 Passes have been given to your Regimental Officers so that they can give them to SOSKAN (paid up) members that are attending this event. It must be emphasized that these Passes alone do not allow you to enter the site! You will also need your (current) SOSKAN Membership Card. Remember to write your vehicle Registration Number on the Pass. Other societies are issued with wristbands and keep them on all weekend, our EC made special arraignment with Military Odyssey to use our (current) Membership Card as ID.
It was bought to the ECs attention that a number of our members have in the past printed Essential Support Vehicle Passes. (They did not think that they had been given enough). Please do not do this, Military Odyssey have given out a standing instruction to all its security staff that if these passes are seen, the offender will be escorted off site, and there society will be informed.
I have sent for another 25 Passes to be used in the event that you do not receive a Pass from your Officer at the next few events. Email me at RDPixs@aol.com with your Address and requirement, I will sent it to you by return.
Very limited Invalid Parking is available around the authentic camp and will be allocated to members on production of a current Invalidity Parking Permit. Please see me for allocated spaces.
General information.
Firewood will be issued from Fri evening, we have 5x1 ton boxes to last over the weekend, so please use it sparingly and think of others when storing it. It may be a good idea to bring extra supplies of your own if you think that you will need more.
Black Powder, Philipp has kindly volunteered to take charge of all powder stored on site for this event. Powder Monkeys can arrive on Friday. Powder must be placed in the powder store when not in use. Powder for use on Sat 28th Sun 29th, will be drawn from 08.00 & 08.30. Returns 18.00 & 18.30 the same day. On Mon 30th, be drawn from 08.00 & 08.30. These times may be altered slightly, so please keep an eye on your company notice boards.
Food Vendors, re-enactors have a special (low rate) food vendor located in the modern camp. They will be serving a variety of food all day. A Milkman comes around daily, so look out for him, he does have a variety of other foods on offer. Other than that, you will find the nearest super market in Maidstone around three miles away.
Authentic Camping is in the same field as last year. The actual camp lay out will be slightly different this year. A full plan will be available on site, so that everyone will know where to set up. As members know, at certain points within the field the ground is very hard. This caused quite a problem for the unfortunate members that had to camp on it. Detling was an RAF site during the 2nd WW and as a consequence some of the grassed areas are laid over hardcore. To get over this problem it is advised that you bring a metal spike to make a pilot-hole in the ground before you try to bang in wooden tent pegs.
Modern camping will be in the same place (within the site) as last year, Please see Albert Shipton, SOSKANs Modern Camp Marshal for information regarding this area.
Display Timings will be posted on your company notice board.
As this year is Military Odyssey's 10th Anniversary it is hoped that we will all make a special effort to make this an event to remember. SOSKAN supported this event from its conception and took a part in its creation. The first year we were paid our expenses (Black Powder) in the last few years this show is probably the best paying event of our season.
