The Southern Skirmish Association is a Registered Educational Charity that has a long history of Re-Enactment and Living History Events. Established in 1968 it is a the Oldest Re-Enactment Society in that UK. The Society have performed at displays all over the UK. Prestigious events have included English Heritage, The National Trust, The City of London, and Borough Councils. This year we perform at venues that include The Hop Farm, and Military Odyssey in Kent the largest Re-Enactment in Europe. We also have events at Claverton Manor Bath, and Cliveden House Berkshire, both for The National Trust.

Activities

The Society's activities include: Historical research for Schools and Colleges, Living History throughout the display weekends, TV & Film contracts. The society works closely with the Police, HSE, and The Client, to make the job of bringing its unique display to you with as little fuss as possible. The society's Projects Team has a background in well-organised event procedures, and will always be available to guide you through the event.

Pricing Policy

As a Charity with a remit to educate the public on the History of The American Civil War, the society does not need to make large profits. You will be pleasantly surprised to know that the Battle and Living History Displays are very reasonably priced and far lower than most other forms of public entertainment.

Bringing History to Life

The society's unique position in Public Entertainment is an opportunity for members to bring History to life. In so doing our visitors can interact with the solders in the Living History Camps. Both the Confederate and Union Army put on displays throughout the weekend. The soldiers within the camps will speak one to one with visitors on all aspects of this conflict that changed the world.

Interesting Facts

Did you know that during the American Civil War in 1865 Man-powered submarines with torpedoes actually sunk enemy shipping, a Balloon Observation Corps was established. 50,000 British and Irish volunteers fought in this bloody war. It is this link with our ancestors that brings many of our members to join the Association. Primarily an Historical Society, it is an opportunity for our members to convey their passion for history to like minded historians. What is so fascinating is that we can bring this history to life. The general public is intrigued with this approach, and when they see the actual conflict taking place. With all the smoke, noise, and chaos of battle right in front of their eyes, it can be thrilling to say the least. Indeed we recruit most of our members this way and is not unusual to see new recruits at our next Battle Display.

The Big Bang at your Event.

Re-Enactment has grown in the UK over the last 10 years. The general public wants more thrill and excitement at events. With our experience over 37 years The Southern Skirmish Association has seen this trend grow. We have been asked more and more to put on bigger, and better battle displays. The society has grown with this experience and can with confidence bring you a spectacular event. Pyrotechnics and limited Calvary can now be included at the client's request.

With our long association with Re-Enactment and experience with historical events we are able to fulfill all aspects of Public Liability. We work within HSE guidelines and Risk Assessments that apply to the varied sites at all locations. Contact with the local and county Police ensure that Site Licenses and Black Powder Stores fully conform to the Police requirements regarding The Storage of Explosives Regulations Act, 2005. These sites have a 24 hour Guard on them. All Powder Officers have Acquire and Keep, RCA Documentation and we use our own daily records. First Aid is an important aspect within our association. We have Public Liability Insurance to £5,000,000. The environment is a consideration at all our events and we often work closely with The National Trust and English Heritage. The knowledge gained helps us to give you, the client, the best advice.

The society is member of NAReS, The National Association of Re-enactment Societies a self regulatory body that bring together all periods of Historical Re-Enactment groups.
