CSS Alabama 26-27July 2014

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS
THE WARRIOR JULY 26th -27th

This is a Southern Skirmish Association event.

I have been asked by the Chair to invite all members to the Warrior weekend.

Once again members of SoSkAn will be re eacting the roll of crew on the Great Ironclad Warrior. We will play the part of the crew of the CSS Alabama.

After visiting the Warrior Captain Raphael Semmes commissioned the British to build him a similar vessel (Alabama) they agreed. But would only build a wooden version. CSS Alabama was a screw sloop-of-war built in 1862 for the Confederate States Navy at Birkenhead, England by John Laird Sons and Company Alabama served as a successful commerce raider, attacking Union merchant and naval ships over the course of her two-year career, during which she never anchored in a Southern port. She was sunk in battle by the USS Kearsarge in June 1864 at the Battle of Cherbourg outside the port of Cherbourg, France.

HMS Warrior the warship that revolutionised the Victorian Navy!

HMS Warrior, launched in 1860, was the pride of Queen Victoria's fleet. The world's first iron hulled, armoured battleship, powered by steam and sail, she was the largest, fastest and most powerful ship of her day and had a profound effect on naval architecture. The only surviving member of Queen Victoria's Black Battle Fleet, Warrior has been fully restored to her original condition and offers four vast decks for visitors to explore.
